THE COMPLEMENT FIXATION TEST OF PARAGONIMIASIS

Abstract
This study ¢¥was conducted primarily to find oat the relationship between the clinical symptom, past history and skin test result, and additionally to establish the antigen titration method and detailed technic of the complement fixation test (C-F test), although the test itself was initiated by Ando (1917) and developed by Yokogawa (1956)
2. In this study, 53 human sera classified by clinical symptom, skin test result and revealing of egg, were tested with 5 rabbits sera by using 4, 030 times solution of Paragonimus worm extract, 2,500 times diluted hemolysin equivalent to 2 units, complenie nt diluted 50 times and 2% suspension sheep cell, and Kolmer¢¥s method was employed.
3 It was found that the test has neither false positive reaction nor cross reaction between other chronic diseases, and no correlation with clonorchis infection. The person heavily infected with paragonimus showed a higher titer, but: some case revealing no egg showed a positiveC-F test whereas some egg positive case showed a negative test.
Considering that a few case was found positive bath for C -F test and egg finding in spite of the skin test showed negative, the reading method of the skin test shoald be reconsidered.
4. Studying those resalts of skin test, sputum and stool examination and C -F test for paragonimiasis and cionorchiasis, the newly discovered facts to be minded in the skin test reading are as follows:
a) in a few cases, it is hard to be interpreted as double infections even when the individuals show identical size of wheals from two antigens
b) in a few cases, it is hard to be interpreted as being infected with the parasite whose antigen elicited the larger wheal
5. Additionally, it was found that the test can be utilized for the antigen titration, the antigen can be stored in refrigerator without diminishing of titer for at least 1 year, and also that the Kolmer¢¥s technic can be employed in the C-F test of paragonimiasis.
